The effects of high energy prices and possible gas and electricity bottlenecks in winter – that was the topic of Thursday in the House of Representatives.

The debate was factual. The coalition and opposition were largely in agreement: no Berliner should freeze, no one should lose their apartment because they can no longer pay the utilities.

“We are calling for a moratorium on terminating all private electricity and gas contracts and for refraining from evictions for the next six months,” said Björn Wohlert (34, CDU).

“Prices in the supermarket are exploding and making butter, tomatoes and cucumbers the new luxury product for higher earners,” says Taylan Kurt (34, Greens). Tobias Bauschke (35, FDP) prophesied: “In the worst case, this winter will also be a season of social coldness for Berlin.”

Social Senator Katja Kipping (44, left): “We urgently need to prevent people from flying out of their homes because of energy debts.”
