In addition to Queen Máxima, King Willem-Alexander and Princess Beatrix were also present in the palace. Volunteer Mawasi Best thought this was a great opportunity to ask the royal family a question. “I’m from Panama, so I also speak Spanish. If I get the chance, I would like to ask Máxima a question in Spanish,” she had as her mission beforehand. “But there are so many protocols that I don’t know what is and is not allowed. But if I get the chance, I will do it.”
Setz had also prepared well for the meeting. “There is a special dress code, so I bought a blouse and jacket last weekend.” And that meeting happened. A photo with the king was also included for the volunteers. “We had a good conversation with the chairman of the Oranje Fonds and the king. And we will take that photo with us to Drenthe,” Setz laughs.
The foundation had already thought about what they would do with the money if they were to win a prize. “We want to strengthen the organization to become more financially sustainable. This way we can sustain this initiative in the long term. But we would also like to build a terrace where we can sit and have a barbecue,” says Setz .
