No agreement with police unions on the protection of Van Quickenborne: “Surveillance could be lost in March”

As a result, officers from, among others, the Vlas Police Zone can refuse the assignment from March 1 to protect the Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne.

The police want more information about the security risk they themselves run, and also ask whether they are sufficiently armed. “The government categorically refuses to provide us with the risk analysis and hides behind the federal prosecutor’s office,” it sounds.

“Not the unions left that table”

“It is not the trade unions that have left the consultation table. We sat together for more than three hours but did not come to a solution. We do emphasize that we want to give social consultation every opportunity until March 1,” says Wesley Huysentruyt of the police union NSPV West Flanders.

“The joint strike notice is now activated, which means that the surveillance of Van Quickenborne by agents of PZ Vlas and the CIK (Federal Police) can cease in March.”

The police not only guard the minister’s private residence. There is also continuous close protection on all movements. Even the children are safely taken to and from school every day. Van Quickenborne’s security is under the command of the crisis center of the Interior.
