The fire broke out around 7:45 PM. The fire brigade responded with vehicles and a fire boat. The smoke was clearly visible in various places in the city, but also outside it.
The fire also did not go unnoticed on Twitter. Twitter users said the city smelled like burnt plastic. “Even in the center of Amsterdam it is unbearable: smoke and a terrible smell,” said one. AT5 also wrote that tipsters report that the smoke clouds can be seen from IJmuiden, Almere and Lelystad, among others.
