The measured annual averages (an average of the measured values per location from January to December 2022.) for nitrogen dioxide are between 13 and 28 µg/m³. This is lower than generally speaking in Ghent and Antwerp and well below the current binding European limit value of 40 µg/m³. At the E17, the results are better than expected because the E17 is located in a trench and the bad air lingers there.
Higher values of nitrogen dioxide were measured near the access roads to and from the city. At these locations it is necessary to focus more on sustainable means of transport and good traffic flow.
Not a single measuring point met the World Health Organization’s recommended value, namely 10 µg/m³. But this is not a binding value.
