Nitrogen: Demir takes “ministerial instructions” herself

In the instructions to all licensing authorities in Flanders, Demir introduces, among other things, a non-licensability threshold of 0.025 percent for new license applications from livestock farming. Extensions of permits without emission reductions will no longer be possible. In addition, the Flemish government will appeal against any permit that is even slightly inconsistent with the instruction.

Demir (N-VA) takes the measures after coalition partner CD&V refused to agree to her draft nitrogen decree on Friday. According to her, this means that a permit stop is coming closer again. “The sword of Damocles will hang over Flanders as long as there is no conclusive legally robust decree. However, these measures ensure that the sword hangs more firmly,” Demir concludes.
