The “Mario Kart” series was a very important building block for the success of Nintendo. Now there are indications that we will soon be able to race with Mario and Co. on the PC.
Nintendo is one of the largest game developers in the world. In addition, the Japanese company is very successful with its consoles. So far it was only possible to play Nintendo titles on the in-house gaming devices, such as the Nintendo Switch. That could change in the future – and of all things “Mario Kart” is taking the first step.
Clues to the PC version of Mario Kart surfaced
Keeping the games in one’s own cosmos – that has been Nintendo’s motto so far. And the company has been doing very well with this strategy so far. If you want to play big titles like “Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, you have to use the Nintendo Switch. In recent years, it has only been possible to meet popular Nintendo characters in games on smartphones. “Pokémon Go” is probably the most prominent name here. With “Mario Kart Tour” there has also been a mobile game in the extremely popular series since 2019. And in this very game hints have been hidden that a PC version of “Mario Kart” could also be planned.
For example, some dataminers were able to discover the “Mouse support” option in the code after the latest update of the mobile game. A native emulation also seems to be a possibility.

Stripped down version seems likely
This does not mean that we can count on a fully-fledged “Mario Kart” version for the PC. It is most likely an offshoot of the mobile game. Nintendo has not yet commented on this. Nonetheless, it would be a remarkable step. So far, it has only been possible to play Nintendo games on the PC with the help of an emulator.
The most likely reason for this step is the games offensive announced by Google. The company is currently working on a new PlayStore specifically for the PC. The offer should even start this year and contain various Android games. This could be serious competition, especially for Nintendo games and products that are designed for flexibility. If the gate to Mario and Co. were opened on the PC, many more exciting projects would be conceivable.
