The fate of former soccer star Dani Alves will be decided at the beginning of February 2024. A court in Spain announced the trial date in the Brazilian’s rape trial on Wednesday (December 20, 2023) and set it for the period between February 5th and 7th.
The 40-year-old Alves has been in custody since the beginning of the year. The Barcelona Regional Court has rejected several requests from Alves’ lawyers for bail.
The ex-wife and manager of the 126-time Brazilian international as well as their two children live in Barcelona.
Spanish prosecutors are demanding a nine-year prison sentence for sexual aggression. In addition, the ex-FC Barcelona professional should pay the victim compensation of 150,000 euros.
Sexual abuse in a nightclub toilet?
Alves is said to have sexually abused a young woman in the toilet of a nightclub in Barcelona in December 2022 after depicting her in the toilet. He initially denied any sexual contact with the woman. His lawyer later stated that the sexual acts had taken place with the woman’s consent.
At the end of 2022, Alves was still part of Brazil’s squad at the World Cup tournament in Qatar. Until his arrest, he played in Mexico for the UNAM Pumas club.
