Nine days of competition at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest

The medal fights at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest will only be held on nine instead of ten competition days.

The world association World Athletics published a corresponding schedule. After that, the World Championships will be held in the Hungarian capital from August 19th to 27th.

At the championship in July in Eugene/USA and at the four previous world title fights, the finals were spread over ten days. The streamlined program aims to increase the attractiveness and excitement of the individual competition days.

At least four finals are scheduled in Budapest every day, including the first day. Eight medal competitions will be held on each of the last two days, each ending with the women’s relays. The program comprises a total of 49 disciplines.

“Creating the schedule for an Outdoor World Championships is a complex balancing act that must take into account the needs of the athletes, broadcasters and the host city, as well as our other stakeholders,” said World President Sebastian Coe. “I am confident that the return to a nine-day program and evening finals at the stadium will be welcomed by our athletes and spectators in Budapest, as well as by spectators around the world.”
