Nikkie Plessen finally responds to the angry Douglas customers who accuse her of racism and discrimination. “We have no intention of excluding anyone.”
It has now been about a year since Nikkie Plessen lost the trust of the inclusive community. Her new make-up line only contained two shades of foundation for non-white people. On top of that were accusations of discrimination within her fashion company, which almost exclusively employs blonde girls.
angry customers
Nikkie has never publicly responded to the accusations, which has left many people with a lingering feud. The bomb exploded when perfume chain Douglas announced a partnership with her last week. More than a thousand savage comments about it have been posted on the company’s Instagram page.
Many angry people shout that they are going to boycott Douglas and call Nikkie a racist. The reactions are so intense that the perfume chain has already removed hundreds of them. Contrary to what Nikkie did last year, Douglas doesn’t completely shut up its customers; most of the comments are still online.
Finally response
While both Douglas and Nikkie still refuse to make a public statement, much to the chagrin of many customers, they do send private messages to customers who complain under the posts on Instagram. In it, they indicate that Nikkie’s makeup line has taken steps to be more inclusive.
Nikkie’s company: “Last year we launched our make-up line N BEAUTY. We then made the decision to start with a limited number of colors and to further expand our range if it proved successful. That has now happened and we have expanded the number of colors from 7 to 15, for example.”
Exclusion
It doesn’t stop there, says Nikkie. “We intend to add many more products and colors. Obviously, we had no intention of excluding anyone with our make-up. We will listen even more closely to constructive suggestions on how we can do business better and will be open about this.”
She promises to take ‘even harder steps’ forward. “As a company, but also as responsible persons, we want nothing more than to do the right thing. With regard to our make-up, we will work on a line that is really for everyone and in this context, where possible, will enter into a dialogue with people who can help us with this in a positive way.”
Douglas responds
The promise to become more inclusive sounds great, so it’s curious that Nikkie isn’t just making her statement public. In that respect it is of course a travesty that she talks about openness, because one thing is certain: Nikkie is not open about this subject at all. When criticism breaks out on her socials, her censorship team is called up immediately.
And what does Douglas say about it? He states that Nikkie is now inclusive enough. “We looked at the N BEAUTY brand in its current form. The current range of N BEAUTY has now been expanded and, in our opinion, that is now a range that can currently serve a large part of the market.”
meaningless
The juice channel Juice Channel, which has been on top of this issue for a year, is not convinced. “It’s always nice to see how they always use a lot of words in these kinds of statements, but don’t actually say anything.”
RTL Boulevard has not reported on this fuss, not even on the website. According to the Juice Channel, the show column is always silent about riots around Nikkie, because she would pay to stand at the desk.
