Niki Tuuli plans to return to the racetrack at the end of July, just two months after the terrible accident.
Luca Gorini / Niki Tuule’s briefing
– I feel much better already. A week ago I was able to start physiotherapy and rehabilitation. My mind is also more refreshed when I have been able to do things again.
I saw a track motorcyclist Niki Tuuli answers a question about his own health. A well-advanced recovery is reassuring to hear, the ingredients were much more serious.
At the end of May, Tuuli had a terrible accident when his foot fell between the chain of the motorcycle and the stroller.
The mark was ugly. Several surgeries were performed on Tuule to try to save his severely damaged toes.
In the end, the doctors had to amputate three toes from the 26-year-old from Imatra.
At the end of May, Tuuli told Iltalehte that he was suffering from enormous pain. In a month and a half, luckily, progress has been made in that regard.
– A week and a half ago I was able to leave out the strongest painkillers. They had to be eaten. There is still pain, especially when holding the foot down. Then it swells and there is pressure on it.
Starting rehabilitative physiotherapy will make you feel better both physically and mentally.
– The pain eases when you can move your leg, Tuuli says.
In physiotherapy, the rehabilitation of the foot focuses not only on making it suitable for normal life, but also for racing.
– Now we’re getting the movement trajectories and sensitivity in order, Tuuli describes.
Walking is not naturalized
Niko Tuule’s announcement
As a result of the accident, Tuuli has to learn to walk again.
– Normally when walking, the big toe hits the ground, but I don’t. Walking still hurts the soles of the feet, Tuuli says.
The problem is that the two remaining toes still don’t work properly. Rehabilitation aims to correct this.
– Now I walk on my heel and on the outside of my foot. The weak side is walking, even with sticks, Tuuli admits.
Back to the tracks
Luca Gorini / Niki Tuule’s briefing
An accident does not scare a racing driver. Tuuli is working on a return to the Supersport World Series of track motorcycling.
The Italian MV Augusta factory driver is supposed to make a comeback already at the end of July for the race weekend in the Czech Republic. At that point, only two months have passed since the accident.
To the Czech Republic, the wind is practically cold. The plan is to get back on the bike this week in Imatra.
– I’m going to test if I can still drive. No bigger test is planned before the Czech race weekend, Tuuli says.
If driving takes shape, the season will continue already at the end of July. Although the driver is still recovering.
– On Monday, I was able to put on my driving shoes for the first time. The leg didn’t move much when I tried to move it. Let’s see how painful it will be on the track, Tuuli says.
The ankle, like the whole leg, is subjected to enormous pressure when driving. However, Tuuli is confident that if the pain stays under control, he will be able to race.
– The muscles have already been trained in the gym. The leg had time to atrophy a lot during forced rest. You have to get the muscle back to be able to cope. And if another wreck happens, it won’t bounce too badly.
