Niilo Moilanen and Johan Häggström: crash in the sprint

Niilo Moilanen crashed in a traditional sprint with a Swedish skier.

– It was a really pointless trick, Sweden Johan Häggström would talk.

Häggström crashed on Thursday in Planica’s World Cup Sprint Finland Niilo Moilanen with. The duo’s skis crossed in a bend, and both skiers went upside down.

The Swede blamed Moila for the incident.

– We were in first and second place. We could have gone uphill side by side and nothing would have happened. He would have had enough room.

– He took skating kicks in the corner to get past me. I went on his skis and he stopped. It was unnecessary.

Moilanen took being in the quarter-finals hard.

He was ninth as the best Finn in the qualification. In individual skiing, both Häggström and Moilanen were in the semi-finals. The Swede managed to squeeze into third, but there was not enough time to continue.

Moilanen, who finished fifth, was moved to tears at the finish line.

– Yes, it felt bad. It cannot be denied. Quite a lot had been uploaded until today. The goal was to continue, Moilanen said.

Moilanen believed that the energy would have been enough for the semi-finals.

– Skiing felt good and skiing was really good. Together with the maintenance man, we chose the right ski. Maybe that adds to the feeling of annoyance. I don’t think that was the best I could give.

The Finnish sprinter did not want to look for the culprits after the race.

– The skis crossed paths with the Swede when we took a turn under the bridge. It rattled a bit. So that was it. From there it was quite an impossible job from the crank to the bow.

– Whose fault it was – it doesn’t matter anymore. It has already happened.

No bad blood

Staying in the semifinals was also a big disappointment for Häggström.

– We both had a good position and a good foot. It feels bitter. We both suffered a lot.

Häggström went to tell Moilanen at the finish line that he thought the Finn’s actions were pointless. Moilanen did not answer.

In front of the media, the Finnish promise said that he would be ready to shake hands with Häggström.

– Of course it will. No bad blood, the Swede replied after hearing about it from the media.

Moilanen plans to melt away the disappointment and get excited for the place in the pair relay by playing with Finnish skiers.

– Nothing helps but setting up the chess games in the evening.
