The police conducted a major search last night for someone who tried to set a car on fire in the Visbuurt in Den Helder. A police helicopter and dogs were deployed. The action was in vain, because the perpetrator had fled.
The police received a report about the attempted car fire around 1.45 am. The emergency services responded quickly, preventing the car from completely burning down.
To track down the perpetrator, the Visbuurt was cordoned off and a helicopter took to the air, a police spokesperson said. Cars were also stopped in the area. All the effort was for nothing, because no one was arrested.

More frequent car fires in Den Helder
Recently more cars burn out in Den Helder. The police spokesperson could not say whether this involved one suspect or several suspects. “We don’t yet know who did this, but as a rule we often see in these cases that it is not someone who randomly sets cars on fire. It is often a targeted action against a specific person.”
“It is an easy action to make a statement against someone. But I cannot say that outright for this action.”
