Nieuwe Theater aan de Parade will be millions of euros more expensive than planned

The new construction of the Theater aan de Parade in Den Bosch will cost more than twelve million more than expected. This is due to the significantly increased energy costs and material prices. The municipality of Den Bosch announced this on Friday.

“I can only say that this is a major financial setback,” responds alderman Mike van der Geld. “Certainly at a time when many people have difficulty making ends meet, this is bitter and we would have preferred to report differently.”

The municipality has already reserved an amount in the 2023 budget to absorb this type of cost increase. The alderman emphasizes that this setback does not have to be at the expense of other matters. “Our municipality is in good shape financially, and we can absorb such a setback.”

New construction
The old Theater aan de Parade was very outdated and had not met the technical requirements of our time for years. That is why the city council decided in 2018 that a new building should be built on the same spot in the city center. A theater for everyone, ready for the future.

Work will start in 2021. The theater will get the key back in the autumn. Subsequently, the so-called move-in takes place in phases.
