Four years after Brexit and after a long period of time, the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) is in force this week. The Britse Barones and Minister for Cabinet Lucy Neville-Rolfe was written in a letter from Zeebrugge.
Neville-Rolfe founded the long trading traditions in the country in the United Kingdom. “It is indrukwekkend hoe we na de Brexit toch zijn blijven handeldrijven,” says Zegt. “I’m not sure about the constructieve aanpak. “Onze gemeenschappijke handel is aan een opmars bezig en zit bijna opnieuw op het oude stufe, pre-Brexit.”

Volgens cijfers van de Britse ambassador bedroeg de totale handel tussen België en het Koninkrijk real 47.5 million pond in 2017 and 46.5 million pond in 2021.
Neville-Rolfe knew about the power of the industry over the new BTOM. Ze zat seeds met Flanders Investment and Trade, the Federaal Agentschap voor de Veiligheid van de Voedselketen, de federatie van de Belgian Voedingsindustrie, de Federatie van Belgian Transporteurs en Logistieke dienstverleners en Voka. The next day the British minister met with the French minister-president Jan Jambon (N-VA) in Brussels.
The wetting round BTOM zal de coming maanden in phases has been ingested and heeft vooral betrekking op dierlijke en plantaardige products. Landbouwproducten of flowers bijvoorbeeld zullen voortaan aan de nieuwe (sanitaire en fytosanitaire, red.) controls onderworpen zijn.
