“Well, whether we can skate next week? We are also very curious about that,” says Bert Drent of Skating Association Nieuw-Buinen. He himself does not dare to speak of a marathon on natural ice. “I do think we can skate sometime in the course of next week.”
Weatherman Hans Nienhuis is convinced of that. “It will certainly be possible to skate at the end of next week, just not yet on the puddles. The weather in November was too warm, so the water is still warm. We actually have three or four ice days (days where the temperature during the day does not rise above the freezing point occurs, ed.) too little.”
According to Nienhuis, skating on tracks such as Nieuw-Buinen can certainly take place in the course of next week. “There only needs to be a small layer on top, that is not half a meter of water that needs to be cooled down.”
