Nienke (16) organizes a Mother’s Day high tea to go to her dream school at sea

The 16-year-old Nienke from Monnickendam will not sit still this Sunday. She organizes a Mother’s Day high tea at people’s homes in the municipality of Waterland to earn some extra money. She does this to raise money for her dream school: School at Sea.

Nienke organizes a Mother’s Day high tea because she still needs some money to go with School at Sea. To realize this dream, she needs 25,000 euros. She has already earned a little more than half of the money. “I don’t know the whole amount by heart, but if I have to make an estimate, I already have about 16,000 euros,” says Nienke.

It is not yet enough to keep up, but she has found many solutions. For example, she has sold many books via Marktplaats, she tries to approach companies to support her, she sells plants, stands at markets and now she has the Mother’s Day high tea. Nienke does everything to collect the amount on time. “I have already heard that it is certain that I can come along.”

High tea at your home

During the high tea you will be spoiled with all kinds of goodies. “There are different types of tea, two tasty sandwiches, a piece of cake, a brownie and some other sweets.” You can now book the Mother’s Day high tea at Nienke. “I’m certainly not fully booked yet. I thought I could do about sixty and now I only have twenty.” Nienke can be reached through her website.

School at Sea

With School at Sea you can make a trip across the Atlantic Ocean in six months. During this trip you will learn about life on a ship while still doing your schoolwork. You get the same tests that your classmates in the Netherlands also take. The development program is for young people between the ages of 15 and 17 who are doing havo 4 or vwo 4/5.

The boat makes a few stops along the way where the students are also allowed to go on land. Places that are on the route anyway are: Tenerife, Dominica, Curaçao, Panama and many more.
