SpVgg Greuther Fürth is threatened with a loss of striker Havard Nielsen in the final sprint of the Bundesliga season and thus also with what may be the last chance for the “cloverleaf” to prevent relegation. Under certain circumstances, the immediate return to the second division could already be certain on the coming matchday.
The 28-year-old Norwegian was injured in the 0-0 draw at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Sunday evening and had to be substituted early. “I’m assuming that he has a muscle injury and that we won’t be available for the last few games,” said coach Stefan Leitl after the game on “DAZN”. Nielsen has scored two goals in the Bundesliga this season.
Greuther Fürth will definitely be relegated if they don’t win the home game against Leverkusen on Saturday (3:30 p.m.). But even with three points against the Bayer team, relegation would be possible if Stuttgart wins at Hertha and Bielefeld gets at least one point in Cologne. Bielefeld and Hertha could theoretically still be caught by Fürth, but one of the two would certainly still score points in a direct duel and thus be guaranteed to stay ahead of Fürth.
