Although she is a former ambassador of UNICEF and that charity is currently fully committed to Ukrainian children, the presenter does not have to think about it. “No, we really do do quite a lot, also for others. We always help anyway and we do that with a lot of love. But you can’t help everyone.”
In the class
Nicolette continues in conversation with magazine Weekend that her environment is fortunately very hospitable to Ukrainian refugees. “My oldest has two children from Ukraine in the class, so in our environment they are all treated very well, fortunately.”
She also wants to keep the war as far away from her children as possible. “I think that very shocking images are shared online and in the news. Which is of course good somewhere, to make everyone aware of what is happening there, but which I sometimes find very complicated for small children.”
Conscious
It’s not an easy time for children to grow up, Nicolette says. She not only points to the war, but also to corona and the climate. “We try to make our children aware,” said the presenter, who returned from her twelfth flight of the year this weekend.
Incidentally, Nicolette’s husband Bas Smit recently became discredited because of the appalling conditions in the workplace of his delivery service Zapp. According to Het Parool, it is one big snufffest there.
