Nicolas De Smet triumphs in Westrozebeke crossduathlon
The last round of the Cross Duathlon Series of Triathlon Flanders took place in Westrozebeke. In it, the promising Nicolas De Smet took the victory and the overall victory in this season’s standings. The West Fleming only needed a little more than an hour to finish: he clocked 01:09:23. Alexander Chamon and Vic Vandendaele completed the podium. Youngest brother and junior Matteo De Smet finished fourth and world champion Thibaut De Smet had to be content with 17th place.
During the cycling part, Thibaut, who rode in his world champion jersey for the first time, had nevertheless built up a comfortable lead of 2 minutes. The young duathlete punctured and saw his brothers rush past him. The talented trio is taking a short break and then looking ahead to the European Cross Duathlon Championships in September.
Sandy Janssen was allowed to celebrate with the women. She ran and cycled the crossduathlon in under an hour and a half: her time was 01:25:13. Dion Hervé and Chantalle Heuvelmans respectively won the Belgian title at the BK crossduathlon for the fire brigade.
