On the home stretch of the transfer window, Borussia Dortmund lured Niclas Füllkrug from Werder Bremen to the Ruhr area. Barely landed at BVB, the 30-year-old is already confronted with a serious crisis. However, Füllkrug himself does not want to know anything about it.
“It’s not a crisis for me,” surprised the striker after his arrival with the national team in Wolfsburg, adding: “There’s an incredible amount of quality there. That’s why I’m not so skeptical.”
BVB had only scored five out of nine possible points from the three games against 1. FC Köln (1-0), at VfL Bochum (1-1) and against newly promoted 1. FC Heidenheim (2-2). It’s no secret that the alarm bells have been ringing loudly for the Black and Yellows for a long time.
“We will use the international break to go into the analysis. We’ll do that internally, not in public. Of course I’ll talk to the coach and the sporting director, they’re the top priority now,” said BVB Managing Director Hans -Joachim Watzke already explained on Sunday in an interview with the “Ruhr Nachrichten” that one was anything but satisfied.
“Small dent” instead of a crisis at BVB?
Coach Edin Terzic also sounded the alarm after the draw against Heidenheim, in which Dortmund recklessly gambled away a 2-0 lead: “That doesn’t happen to a top team. We have the game under control and are playing it out again hand. If we don’t stop doing that, it’s going to be very difficult to celebrate anything.”
Füllkrug, who came on as a substitute against Heidenheim and made his BVB debut, downplayed the weak start to the season: “You’re still unbeaten. Of course you imagined other points in the opening program,” but ultimately you’re only “with a small dent started”.
