Nicky Romero has commented on Humberto Tan’s talk show about his unfortunate debut as a TV personality. Because no one looks at his role as a judge in Avastars.
It’s not going well for Nicky Romero. Not only is he portrayed as a huge pervert by the infamous juice channel Juice Channel, his debut as a TV personality also falls completely into the water. No dog watches the television show Avastars, in which he has the role of a judge. In fact, it’s a historic TV flop.
Nicky responds
Humberto Tan asked Nicky about it last night in his talk show on RTL 4. “Avastars gets critical acclaim and not many people watch it; 213 thousand viewers. Oh, sorry, I’m saying it wrong: 214 thousand viewers. You are not an inventor or maker, you are a jury member here. But does that easily slide off you when there is criticism of that program? Because there is.”
It is what it is, Nicky responds. “Well, I just see it as part of the Avastars team. You should also not duck when things are not going as well as you had hoped, but for me this was a very nice experience to do.”
Working with John
Nicky has been in contact with producer John de Mol for some time. “I once sat with John de Mol with Armin van Buuren van: maybe we will do something fun. And then I thought: am I the right person to be on television and can I deal with all those opinions?”
He continues: “Well, I didn’t know that, but I did say: if there is something about music, I would do my best to see what I can contribute to that program. This was such a first opening and I thought: I’ll just go on the adventure. (…) John also sticks his neck out to try something new and then it may be that something scores less.”
Not from the tube
John has decided not to take Avastars off the air. Why not? Former SBS 6 boss Tina Nijkamp: “What do we put down that scores better, they will think at Talpa. They don’t have that much choice. The reruns of Ik Hou Van Holland are already on the spot of the also flopped De NIX Factor.”
She also points to the program’s main sponsor, T-Mobile. “It is possible that they will shorten. For example, two more instead of four one-and-a-half hour episodes and then reruns of Mr. Frank Visser Makes Statement before another talent show starts on April 7: The Talent Scouts.”
The Talent Scouts is the second SBS 6 project to feature Nicky Romero as a TV judge.
Klopping’s criticism
What does tech expert Alexander Klöpping think? He sees the Netflix version of Avastars as proof that John uses heavily outdated technology:
