Nicki Minaj releases her follow-up album PINK FRIDAY 2

After five years, the US rapper is releasing a new record and her fifth studio album.

Thirteen years ago, Nicki Minaj released her debut album PINK FRIDAY and achieved her breakthrough with it. Now the continuation of the record follows.

PINK FRIDAY 2: First album since 2018’s QUEEN

The Queen of Rap’s fifth studio album was originally scheduled to be released on November 24th. Now with PINK FRIDAY 2, Nicki Minaj delivers a total of 22 tracks with plenty of guest contributions. Anyone who has known the rapper for some time will come as no surprise that her long-time companion Drake and her supporter Lil Wayne are featured on the record. But at the same time, Minaj surprises with new features such as Tasha Cobb’s Leonard in the song “Blessings”. In advance, the 41-year-old offered a foretaste of the record through single releases and also gave some hints in interviews about what to expect. She explained to Vogue that “Last Time I Saw You” is a song about guilt.

“And I don’t think people make a lot of music about the experience of guilt. But if you talk to anyone in the world about it, they will know exactly what you mean. That ‘I wish I had’ feeling. When I wrote the hook I had to think about people I love and see every day and still take for granted.”

The pre-released track “Super Freaky Girl,” in which Minaj shows off her poppier side, received a lot of attention. This not only received several awards, but also placed in pole position on the US “Billboard Hot 100”. In Germany, however, the track only made it to number 33 in the charts.
