Nick & Simon also avoid each other at Avastars: ‘Atmosphere is rotten’

Nick & Simon continue to pretend that there is no argument, but according to Jordi Versteegden, they hardly looked at each other at the Avastars press presentation. “The atmosphere is rotten.”

The play by Nick Schilder and Simon Keizer begins to take on increasingly absurd forms. They pretend that there is no question of arguing – after all, there are still a few lucrative farewell concerts coming up – but in the meantime they no longer appear together in public and refuse to give interviews together.

Avoid each other

How did that go at the Avastars press presentation? Nick & Simon are judges in this dramatically under-watched SBS 6 show and Talpa made them appear together on press day.

Reporter Jordi Versteegden from De Telegraaf was there. “I also saw them recently at Avastars press day and the click between the two… They also just avoided each other,” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.

‘Atmosphere is rotten’

It is also telling that they no longer want to give interviews, says colleague Evert Santegoeds. “If you have been on the road together for twenty years, then it seems to me that you also conclude that together, but even that is no longer possible, which says something about the atmosphere between the two.”

Jordi bluntly: “Yes, because it’s just really rotten, isn’t it?”

Evert: “I think so.”

Stage play

Maybe it’s better that they don’t do joint media appearances anymore, says Evert. “It is a pity for the fans that you are not going to turn that into a stage play, but it is just as honest: we are not doing that anymore.”

According to Evert, it seems more and more that the show media was right all along about their alleged fight. “We were the first to bring it up at the time that they were separating and then it was also about the fact that they simply can no longer go through one door at all. If they can go through a door, it is a revolving door.”

Sympathy back

Will Nick & Simon score solo? Evert: “Not automatically. That will depend on the material they have. They were unique because it was just the two of them and those voices connected so well. Soon they will just be two of the many singers we already have.”

Jordi: “I think they should also get some sympathy back.”

Evert: “Yes, that image of the cheerful boys with the guitar has suffered a dent.”
