On March 3rd, Roger Waters released the first audio sample of his re-recording of Pink Floyd’s classic “The Dark Side of the Moon”: a short excerpt from the song “Us and Them”. In May, the project should be heard in its entirety.

Nick Mason, however, has apparently already given the singer a longer foretaste. During a playback of the recently released official band remaster of the album for the 50th anniversary, the latter said that he had known about Waters’ project for a long time and had received material from him. “Annoyingly, it’s absolutely gorgeous.”

When Waters announced in early February that he wanted to reinterpret the Pink Floyd classic without the participation of the other members of his former band, he had little good to say about them. “They can’t write songs and have nothing to say. These aren’t artists. They have no ideas, not a single one together. They never have, and it infuriates them.”

At least drummer Mason seems to have reconciled with Roger Waters. He is among the artists who have signed a petition to allow the musician to play canceled solo shows in Germany (so far only his gig on May 28th in Frankfurt am Main has been officially cancelled).

The background is the criticism of some of Waters’ statements with anti-Semitic overtones and his vocal support of the BDS campaign. For this reason, there was talk of a cancellation in Munich, which was ultimately not enforced by the organizer. The debate is also going on in Berlin. A total of eight performances are planned in five German cities: Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Berlin and Frankfurt am Main. Waters has announced that it will also take legal action if there are further cancellations.
