The singer goes to the demiurge to ask him about the secret of life. “If he tells me all he knows/ About the way his river flows/ I don’t suppose/ It’s meant for me.”

As an accompaniment for his most musically ambitious song, Drake had in mind an arrangement based on the English composer Frederick Delius. This overwhelmed the skills of Drake’s friend and arranger Robert Kirby, who asked composer Harry Robinson for help.

In the London suburb of Barnes, they devised an impressionistic musical flow that contained the whole world of the song.
