Just wait a little longer and then it’s carnival again. Of course this includes a nice ‘pekske’. Every year the hippest, funniest and most unique carnival outfits pass by. Hein Wouters from Robbies Feestkleding in Hoogeloon is ready and shows us the trends of this year.
After a two-year hibernation, it is now time to go all out again, Wouters notes. “Carnival is just around the corner and so people are coming to score a new carnival outfit.
“It is enormously busy. It’s starting to tickle everyone again. You notice that after two years of corona people really want to spend something and have saved for carnival. We see people coming here in large groups. It’s a rush from early to late.”
Visitors to the party clothing store have plenty of choice. “We have everything, but the classics continue to do well: a farmer’s smock or carnival jacket, for example.”
In addition to the classics, you also have the real carnival trends. “Easy outfits that you dress up with accessories are really popular this year. Clothing in the theme of ‘wrong party’, tracksuits and jackets are doing very well.”
Wouters and his colleague Anja van Doorn have put on the most popular carnival outfits of 2023 and briefly explain why these are the trends for this carnival season.
1. The humorous onesies
“We see that carnival is increasingly being celebrated outdoors. Many young people go to festivals, but there is also a lot of partying on the street. People like to wear a warm outfit. The onesies are then a great outfit with humor, because you have them in different fun themes. So you can go to the sharks or to the eggs with the trip chicken.”
2. Tracksuits
“Tracksuits are also popular. They come in many shapes and sizes. An advantage is that they are not too difficult to put on and are comfortable. You can find many accessories with it, such as necklaces and glasses. An example is the pub tiger.”
3. The familiar carnival jacket
“The carnival jackets in different colors and shapes remain popular. They look cheerful and you can easily and quickly put them on over your own clothes. Then you can make it as crazy as you want by putting on a hat or wig.”
