“Nice MotoGP Unlimited, now I want the official Ducati”

The Spaniard of Ducati Pramac is the face of the docu-series launched by Prime Video: “Qatar is behind us, Bagnaia apologized. The GP22 is fast, but the acceleration needs to be fixed: I give 100% and if so does the bike I see myself in red in 2023. Bastianini? He showed how strong the GP21 is and I’m happy for team Gresini’s victory ”

He is one of the new faces of MotoGP, but also one of those he can bet on with greater certainty to predict a glorious path: Jorge Martin, second year in the top class and with Ducati Pramac, has been chosen to talk about the new docu – Amazon Exclusive MotoGP Unlimited series, launched by Prime Video, produced by The Mediapro Studio in collaboration with Dorna, consisting of eight episodes of 50 minutes each and available from March 14. We are talking about a documentary that observes in retrospect the 2021 MotoGP vintage that consecrated Fabio Quartararo world champion, experienced the farewell of Valentino Rossi after 26 years as a protagonist, saw the star of Francesco Bagnaia, vice world champion with Ducati, shine. and also explode Jorge Martin, Rookie of the year with 4 poles and a victory on his debut in the world championship. Original footage, comments in the original language and many behind-the-scenes glimpses of the GPs enrich the narrative of MotoGP Unlimited, outlined with rhythm and great attention to detail.

Jorge Martin, how pleased you were at being chosen to talk about this MotoGP Unlimited docu-series?

“A lot, I didn’t think it was in anticipation that I should be one of the protagonists of last season, but in 2021 we made a lot of noise and created a good year and for this we had a lot of space”.

What did you like most about MotoGP Unlimited?

“Certainly review my many good moments, starting with my first pole and above all my first victory”.

In this documentary, a lot of behind the scenes of racing and riders emerges: what is his secret side when he is not on the track on the bike?

“He is that of a humble boy, who loves the bike, but also to train and have fun with his friends: I am a spontaneous and equal person, both in the paddock and outside”.

Did Jorge Martin love other sports before the bike?

“I’ve been skiing, tennis and martial arts: it is better that others don’t have problems with me (he jokes, ed). I’ve always been tied to sport: if I hadn’t been a driver I would certainly have been a sportsman in another discipline “.

In MotoGP Unlimited, his terrible accident in Portimao was also reviewed: was it the hardest moment of your career?

“Yes, it was the only time I thought about quitting. It happened the next day, when I was in the hospital: I was in a lot of pain and I didn’t know if I would come back because I didn’t see that all the effort I made in the hospital to get back deserved mine. time and my effort, but then I found my motivation and left “.

Let’s talk about another accident: how are you after the collision with Pecco Bagnaia in Qatar?

“I’m fine, I was lucky: I only have a little pain in my hand, but it was the only time I really thought it was the end. As I rolled in the gravel with both bikes I thought I would drop one. above and when I stopped I said to myself ‘you were lucky’. Now I only think about the next race to recover from this bad result “.

Did you talk to Bagnaia? Were there any excuses and explanations?

“He apologized to me, both in returning to the pits and in hospitality, but the truth is that we were both suffering because we were not competitive in the race. An accident can happen: now it’s his turn and it could happen to me in the race. future, I obviously hope it doesn’t happen other times, but I didn’t ask for explanations “.

You did not start well from pole, but in general none of the Ducatis started at their best: is there a technical explanation?

“I didn’t start very well, but not very bad either and I had to turn off the gas because Enea was in front. It wasn’t a good start, but not a disaster either, the point is that all the new Ducatis are suffering in acceleration: we have to work a lot and look at the data and I also have to try to adapt my style to see if it can improve the performance of the bike. ”

In which aspect did he suffer the most?

“I know we are fast and in fact I took pole, but we have to work because we are missing something in the race: if we find the acceleration we will find the rhythm because in the other parts we were not in bad shape, but if you lose a lot of meters at the exit of the last one. curve then you have to recover all along the track and so you suffer a lot and the tires get too hot: we have to find the weak point and improve “.

You have the 2022 engine, different from the one used by Bagnaia and Miller: how is it different?

“I suffer a lot in the management of the lower throttle, at the first stroke of the accelerator it is difficult to manage. I would say that it is a less linear engine than last year, but there is great potential: if you take pole it means that you are strong. At these levels, pole means a lot: I’m confident, it just takes time to find the right line. ”

Have you already understood how the Ducati GP22 is better than the GP21?

It is difficult to say what it is better in, perhaps in aerodynamics, but we need to understand a lot because we have only lapped a little and we need a lot of kilometers to remove the weak points and strengthen the strong ones. We saw Enea Bastianini win with the 2021 bike: we have to find a line otherwise it will be a very difficult year “.

Did Bastianini’s victory with the Gresini team, with which you conquer the 2018 Moto3 title, give you a particular emotion?

“I’m very happy for them: they deserved it. I talked a lot with Fausto and seeing that his team took a very competitive bike and immediately won was one of the best moments of the year: I’m very happy for them, the guys. , the team and his wife “.

At the first GP he immediately hit pole, confirming his talents: where do you want to go at the end of the season?

“I see myself as one of the strongest on the grid and able to fight for the podium and victory in every race, but I don’t set myself one goal for the end of the season, but race at a time: getting to the factory Ducati team is my goal, but above all I want to try to win as much as possible “.

You talked about factory Ducati: do you feel therefore fighting with Bastianini and Jack Miller for the factory team?

“I don’t think so, I just think about finding my line: if I find my way and do well, I think I’ll be there next year. Now we have the factory bike and we are suffering, but I’m giving 100% and even the bike gives 100% we’ll be ready to go red next year “.

You amazed in the year of your MotoGP debut with 4 poles and a victory and everyone is predicting you as a sure world champion: is this a goal you want to achieve with Ducati?

“Many talk, but in the end what counts is the work I do on the track and at home. Becoming a world champion is my goal: I don’t know if this year, next or between two, but it is the goal of my life and a dream and I hope to be able to reach it in the next few years “.

How is the paddock without Valentino Rossi?

“I experience it as a change of era: it is a void that Valentino has left, but luckily there is his team and therefore his fans can support his team. But if you are a fan of Valentino it is because you like bikes and so also the races and these will continue to be there. Of course, you have to go and cheer for another, it’s not easy, but with his team the void is less. our sport even without Vale “.
