On his eighteenth birthday, Ernest Poku extended his contract with AZ for three years. The talent’s contract with the Alkmaarders now runs until the summer of 2026.
The Amsterdam-born attacker came to AZ in 2019 and signed his first professional contract six months later. In preparation for this season, trainer Pascal Jansen took the growth brilliant at the A-selection to train with. In return for RKC Waalwijk (1-0) he made his debut as a substitute. Then three more raids followed. In the double encounter with Celticin the Europa League, Poku also played.
At Jong AZ, trainer Maarten Martens allowed him to start twelve times in the base this season. Surprisingly, he only scored once. On October 18, he opened the scoring in the home match against Young Ajax (1-1).
