German national ice hockey player Nico Sturm ended his drought in the NHL and scored two goals in the San José Sharks’ narrow win against the Detroit Red Wings.
For the runner-up world champion from Augsburg, the goals to make it 3:4 and 4:4 on Thursday evening (December 7th, 2023, local time) were the first two goals of the season. The Sharks were already 0:4 behind in Detroit and ultimately won 6:5 after extra time against Sturm’s national team colleague Moritz Seider’s team.
Six goals in three minutes
In the wild game, the two teams scored a total of six goals within 181 seconds in the second period. “Definitely one of the craziest sequences of my career,” said Sturm. “Not so much fun for our coach’s heart, but it was probably great for the fans today.”
Peterka wins with the Sabers
JJ Peterka also had reason to be happy. With his eleventh goal of the season, he gave the Buffalo Sabers the lead against the Boston Bruins. The Sabers won the game 3-1. Tim Stützle contributed an assist, but his Ottawa Senators lost 3-4 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
