NHL: Oilers catch-up comes too late

The German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl was unable to crown a spectacular comeback with his Edmonton Oilers in the North American professional league NHL.

At the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Oilers caught up from a 4-0 deficit in just eight minutes, but ultimately lost the goal spectacle 6-5.

American Jack Roslovic dashed the Oilers’ comeback hopes with his two goals in the final period (50′, 55′). It was only the 15th win in 59 games for the Blue Jackets.

In a wild second third, the hosts increased from 1-0 to 4-0 within six minutes before the Oilers scored with goals from Warren Foegele (27′), Draisaitl (30′) and a brace from his congenial strike partner Connor McDavid ( 33., 35.) equalized the game. Zach Hyman’s goal just before the end came too late (58′).

In the scorer ranking, the outstanding McDavid, who prepared two more goals in addition to his own, is in first place with 113 points, ahead of Draisaitl (88) in second place. It’s an unexpected setback for the Oilers as they battle to get into the playoffs.
