Russian defenseman of the San Jose Sharks Nikolai Knyzhov missed all of last season due to a groin injury and an infection following surgery. Now he experienced another huge setback.
The Sharks announced on Saturday that Knyzov had torn his Achilles tendon during training. Due to the injury surgery, he will be sidelined for about half a year.
What makes the situation very unfortunate is that Knyžov had already had time to recover from his injuries that watered down last season.
Knyžov underwent surgery on August 10, so the defender could return to the rink only in February at the earliest.
The last match played by 24-year-old Knyžov is from May 2021. He played all the regular season matches of the Sharks in the 2020–21 season with the power of 2+8.
