Former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett has died at the age of 35. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Mallett drowned off the coast of Destin, Florida.
Mallet, who plays for the North American Football League’s New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, was in the water with a group of others when they got into trouble, authorities said. Mallett went under and lifeguards brought him ashore, but resuscitation measures were unsuccessful.
“We express our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones following his tragic death,” the official said.
Most recently, Mallett worked as a high school football coach in his native Arkansas.
“We lost a great man. Thank you for everything Ryan,” quarterback superstar Tom Brady wrote in an Instagram Story for a photo he shared with Mallett from his Patriots days.
