Russell Wilson fell far short of his potential as a new signing for the Denver Broncos last preseason. One reason for this was certainly the ongoing knee problems that plagued the NFL star. An intervention could now have solved this problem.
As “NFL Network” reported on Wednesday, Wilson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery at the beginning of the offseason. For the surgery, the quarterback was given “slight leeway” in terms of time to ease the ailments that handicapped him over several seasons.
The small window of time mentioned in the report suggests a long rehabilitation phase. Nevertheless, Wilson is said to be throwing balls again on the pitch. His employer is also expecting him punctually for the start of training on April 3rd.
Under new head coach Sean McVay, the Broncos are looking to set the stage for a successful season after ending the previous one with a 5-12 record.
NFL superstar wasn’t in full possession of his powers
Russell Wilson, who signed a five-year, $245 million deal in Denver last year, has often been used as a symbol of the botched season. However, the longtime Seattle Seahawks playmaker was also derailed by numerous injuries during this period.
For example, in week five, Wilson had surgery on his throwing shoulder. In the next game he was back on the field anyway and immediately suffered a hamstring injury. But that’s not all.
On Game Day 14, the Broncos playcaller suffered a concussion that forced him to watch for the following encounter. Despite these numerous injuries, Wilson completed 15 of the 17 season games as a starter.
Although the 34-year-old only threw 16 touchdowns in his first season in Denver and made the worst attack in the NFL with his team, his teammates demonstratively threw themselves in front of their quarterback on social media.
