NFL Insider Opens Up About Ezekiel Elliott’s Future

Ezekiel Elliott continues to be a free agent in the offseason. The running back was released by the Dallas Cowboys in March. A return to Arlington has been in the air ever since. However, an NFL expert has now shattered this dream.

Jane Slater has been reporting from Dallas for NFL Network for years and knows how likely it is that Elliott will rejoin the Cowboys a second time.

“I spoke to one of my sources today and was told bluntly that they just don’t think about re-signing Elliott,” Slater said Monday on NFL Total Access. The journalist also only outlined a scenario that would see the former first-round pick return to Dallas.

“When I asked if there was a situation where they would bring him back, it sounded like the same response I got from multiple teams,” Slater continued. “It would basically require another injury to one of their other RBs.”

With Tony Pollard, the Cowboys’ star running back is just recovering from a broken fibula. Behind those responsible, those responsible prefer to rely on rather inconspicuous players like Ronald Jones II. or Qadree Ollison instead of giving Elliott another chance.

NFL: Dak Prescott keeps Elliott rumors alive

Part of the reason why Elliott continues to be associated with his ex-team is Dak Prescott. The Cowboys starting quarterback confirmed to reporters during the week that he was training privately with his buddy.

“We will continue to work together, push each other,” promised Prescott and also confirmed Elliott’s strong form. “He makes a good impression. I look forward to every opportunity that comes my way and will always be his biggest fan.”

Prescott and Elliott were both picked by Dallas in the 2016 NFL Draft. The duo even made it to the Pro Bowl together in 2017 and 2019.
