NFL: For $800 million

In terms of sport, the Kansas City Chiefs have been offering their fans the maximum for years. Now the stadium visit experience is about to get even better for fans of the Super Bowl champion. As the NFL team from Missouri announced, the venerable Arrowhead will undergo costly renovations and modernizations in the coming years.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs presented their new concept for a “complete redesign and renovation of Arrowhead Stadium” to the media, “which will take the iconic stadium into the future,” according to the Chiefs’ statement.

“For more than five decades, Arrowhead Stadium has been the home of the Chiefs and a home for so many of our fans,” said team owner Clark Hunt, who was voted the worst team owner by almost 1,700 NFL players. “This is where generations of Chiefs fans fell in love with the game. History was made here, legends were born here and lifelong memories were created within these walls.”

Hunt continued: “The stadium has become an integral part of our community. Today we are pleased to announce our plans to extend the life of the Arrowhead for future generations of Chiefs fans.”

As the Kansas City Star reports, the Chiefs’ new palace is said to be worth a sum of $800 million. However, the NFL team itself only pays 300 million and a possible surplus; the four-time Super Bowl champion gets the rest from taxpayers’ money.

The most important renovation concepts

The renovation of the Arrowhead is of course accompanied by a variety of concepts that are intended to improve the fan experience at the Kansas City Chiefs in addition to sporting success. Among other things, the following things should be put into practice:

  • A new grassed activation zone with “tailgate” areas and a covered entertainment area
  • Canopy covering the upper stand to provide weather protection for fans, in addition to infrared heaters and overhead fans to increase comfort all year round.
  • New VIP entrances will lead to entirely new areas within the stadium and will also reduce fan traffic and congestion at existing entry checkpoints.
  • New sideline clubs will be constructed following excavation work under the lower stand ring to create new premium experiences for game days and special events.
  • The video boards will be enlarged but retain their iconic shape to complement the stadium’s unique curved end zones, while new LED tape displays will also be installed.
  • Three new pedestrian bridges will no longer disrupt traffic flow, improving safety and the event experience.
