NFL legend Tom Brady explains in his podcast why the current generation of quarterbacks will have a hard time breaking his records and who is most likely to dethrone him.
Tom Brady is considered the best quarterback in NFL history. So far, so clear. But can one of the rising stars of the QB guild dethrone the Patriots legend in the near future? In the most recent edition of his podcast “Let’s Go,” his guest and NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal asked him whether a current NFL player could emulate Brady.
The former quarterback responded with a clear favorite: “Good question. I mean, when I look at the guys in pro football, it’s Patrick [Mahomes] the one that really stands out,” Brady said.
“They’ve done a great job since he took over,” Brady continued. “And he has a really great coach – like I’ve been lucky, like you’ve been lucky – who helps you and… keeps you humble when things are going well and knows how to lift you up when things aren’t going well.”
But getting into the realm of the “GOAT” requires one thing above all: consistency.
“You have to do it for a long time, I did it for a long time. When I look at my career, I was able to do it every single year and practically every single game,” said Brady, referring to his long and successful career in the NFL.
Brady: “Delivered every week”
The 46-year-old emphasized that he only missed games twice. “Once when I was suspended for four games and once when I tore my ACL on a hit.”
Otherwise he was always at the start – “every week”. Not every game was “perfect,” but every game was “pretty good.” “And most of the time I didn’t put my team in a position to lose.
What worries the seven-time Super Bowl winner: Since quarterbacks in the modern NFL are running more and more, he fears that their careers will be shortened.
His analysis: “So I don’t know who can play for 21 years – I really don’t know. I know what it took, and it took a lot, and I’m sure some people have ambitions to do it try. But there are a lot of things that have to work out for you.”
