Brazil’s soccer star Neymar has undergone successful surgery on his left knee. His club FC Santos announced this on Monday. The 33-year-old underwent arthroscopy to treat an injury to the medial meniscus.
“The operation was successful and the player is in good condition,” the traditional club said in a statement. The procedure was carried out by the team doctor of the Brazilian national team, who had already operated on Neymar in the past.
The attacker had a difficult season this year with his boyhood club, to which he returned at the beginning of 2025. He was repeatedly slowed down by injuries, but played a decisive role in the fight to stay in the league. He has eight goals in 20 league games, five of them in the last five games. Santos only secured their stay in the first division on the last matchday.
Neymar’s contract expires at the end of the year, but the club management is negotiating an extension. It remains to be seen whether the Seleção’s record goalscorer (79 goals, two more than Pelé) will take part in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Neymar last played for the national team on October 17, 2023, when he seriously injured his knee against Uruguay. Since then he has not been nominated by the new Brazilian national coach Carlo Ancelotti.
