Canada’s ice hockey women have secured the world championship title for the twelfth time.
In the final in Herning, Denmark, coach Troy Ryan’s team defeated arch-rivals USA 2-1 (0-0, 2-1, 0-0) and made the successful title defense perfect. Canada had already won the final against the USA at the home World Cup in Calgary in 2021.
On Sunday, Brianne Jenner (30th, 31st) made the decision in favor of Canada with a quick brace. From the point of view of the Americans it was particularly bitter: they had won all games comfortably up to the final – and also beat the defending champion.
The German team was eliminated in the preliminary round, but still rated the World Cup as a success after staying up.
