Next victory in the direction of the Bundesliga: Darmstadt 98 extend their lead

Setback for Paderborn & Fortuna

SV Darmstadt 98 is keeping HSV at bay in the fight for the second division championship and is continuing to extend its lead in the race for promotion to the Bundesliga. The Lilies scored three points against SC Paderborn, as did Greuther Fürth in Sandhausen and Holstein Kiel at Hansa Rostock. Regensburg and Magdeburg drew, while Arminia Bielefeld also saved a point against Fortuna Düsseldorf in the relegation battle and remained unbeaten for the fifth time in a row.

The Darmstadt team celebrated a 2-1 (1-1) win against the SCP and, after their third win in a row, are now seven points ahead of the relegation spot occupied by 1. FC Heidenheim. The cushion to Hamburger SV in second place is five points. The southern Hessians again distanced FC St. Pauli in fourth place by eleven points (to the table). Matthias Bader (35th minute) and Braydon Manu (59th) scored the goals for SV 98 in front of 16,674 spectators.

The Darmstadt side were a bit more active from the start and had the first big chance of the game, but Filip Stojilkovic (13th) missed it from a tight angle. Bader lobbed goalkeeper Jannik Huth from the right side of the penalty area to give the home side the lead. The visitors equalized with a converted penalty. Marvin Mehlem had brought down Sir Lord Conteh. Florent Muslija (44th) converted. Paderborn even pushed for the lead at the beginning of the second half. Darmstadt goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen deflected a long-range shot from Muslija just over the bar and was lucky that Raphael Obermair only hit the side netting with a shot from the left side of the penalty area. When they took the lead again, the home side benefited from a failed back pass from Paderborn’s captain Ron Schallenberg. Manu got the ball, rounded goalkeeper Huth and pushed in.

Damper in the fight for promotion: Dusseldorf gets 2: 2 in Bielefeld

Fortuna Düsseldorf had to accept the next setback in the fight for promotion in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Easter Sunday, coach Daniel Thioune’s team couldn’t get more than 2-2 (0-1) in the game at Arminia Bielefeld and missed the chance to catch up with relegation rank three. Bielefeld kept the distance to the relegation zone and remained undefeated in the fourth game under coach Uwe Koschinat.

A week after the 2-2 win against Hamburger SV, Düsseldorf also set clear offensive accents in Bielefeld in front of 23,433 spectators. The visitors created a number of scoring chances in the first half. André Hoffmann (4th minute) only hit the post with his head, Ao Tanaka (35th) later shot the crossbar. The hosts initially acted more effectively. After a throw-in, Arminia striker Fabian Klos (20th) made it 1-0 for Bielefeld. After the break, Fortuna initially remained the more agile team and was rewarded. Emmanuel Iyoha (49th) and Felix Klaus (60th) turned the deficit with their goals. But Bielefeld didn’t give up and secured the point from Bryan Lasme’s goal (84′).

The game was overshadowed by the explosion of a firecracker, which happened next to Arminia goalkeeper Martin Fraisl in the 13th minute. The 29-year-old keeper held his ear immediately afterwards, but was able to continue playing after a short break in treatment. The firecracker exploded with a loud bang, Fraisl was in front of the Düsseldorf fan block at this point.

FCM misses victory in relegation battle – next setback for Sandhausen

Magdeburg scored another point in the fight for relegation, but missed the liberation despite a late lead and a dominant first half in Regensburg. The FCM first demonstrated their usual ball possession football and took the lead after ten minutes with a dream goal. Baris Atik flicked a free kick from around 20 meters over the wall into the far corner. After the break, the home side appeared bolder and benefited from a gross misunderstanding by Magdeburg to equalize. The ball bounced past FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann from Silas Gnaka’s thigh and into the goal. In the hectic final phase, Magdeburg’s Daniel Elfadli (80′) poked the ball over the line. Things continued to be turbulent: Kaan Caliskaner (90′) saved a point for Jahn and in added time Magdeburg’s Daniel Heber saw red after a foul.

A defeat against SpVgg Greuther Fürth means that bottom club SV Sandhausen is no longer in the league in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 0:2 (0:2) on Sunday, the team of SVS trainer Tomas Oral fell behind due to goals conceded by Branimir Hrgota (9th minute) and Ragnar Ache (26th). The coach, who took over in mid-February, missed a much-needed sense of achievement in the sixth game under his leadership. In the closing stages, Oral was sent to the stands with a red card after loudly complaining (85′).

Hansa Rostock is also getting closer and closer to relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga. In the Baltic Sea duel, the Rostockers lost 2:3 (1:2) to Holstein Kiel on Sunday and also remained without a point in the second game under their new coach Alois Schwartz. FC Hansa was at least improved compared to previous appearances. But the goals from Rick van Drongelen (12th) and Lukas Hinterseer (53rd) were not enough for the first home win since September. KSV Holstein turned the deficit in the first half just before the break with a double strike by Fabian Reese (44th) and Philipp Sander (45th + 2). Lewis Holtby (47th) followed up shortly after the start of the second half, which should have finally eliminated the Kiel team’s concerns about relegation.
