Next victory for FC St. Pauli: Hürzeler with coaching start record

series continues

The new FC St. Pauli coach, Fabian Hürzeler, has achieved what no coach in the history of professional football for the Braun-Weißen has ever achieved before: four wins from the first four games with the neighborhood club. In Magdeburg, FCSP turned the game around shortly before the end and has an impeccable record in 2023. Hannover 96 also only secured something countable in the final phase in the draw in Regensburg. Greuther Fürth meanwhile, two goals from Ragnar Ache were enough for the home win against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday.

In Magdeburg, the Hamburg team managed to win 2-1 (0-1) on Saturday. Baris Atik had given the promoted team the lead after 39 minutes. Jackson Irvine (74th) scored the deserved equalizer in front of 24,278 spectators. When everyone expected a draw, Jakov Medic struck in the 88th minute. This means that St. Pauli will not lose a point in 2023, as will Hürzeler, who, as a former assistant coach, took over for the dismissed Timo Schultz after the first half of the season.

Magdeburg, the weakest team in the league at home, delivered a spirited game in the first half. From the 20th minute, FCM played well forward and took advantage of one of their chances. It was the first goal conceded for Hamburg in 2023. After the good initial phase, St. Pauli let up more and more in attack and did not pose any major problems for the Magdeburg defense. That changed after the move. St. Pauli became more active, put pressure and the defense into bigger problems. After Maurides missed the equalizer after 72 minutes, Irvine made it better after a corner kick. There wasn’t much to see from Magdeburg in the second period and central defender Medic was able to score his third goal of the season just before the end, completely unattended in front of the goal.

Double pack from Ache: Greuther Fürth defeats Fortuna Düsseldorf

A brace from Ragnar Ache gave SpVgg Greuther Fürth the sense of achievement they deserved and inflicted a setback on Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Franconians won 2-1 (1-0) in front of 9,804 spectators on Saturday and pulled away from the lower ranks again.

Ache headed in a Max Christiansen cross from seven yards out in the 28th minute. After a template by the dynamic Tobias Raschl, the striker from Fürth raised his foot after the break (57th). Christiansen even missed the 3:0 (63rd) when he hit the post. Düsseldorf’s joker Kristoffer Peterson, on the other hand, made the game exciting again with his goal (67th). After the yellow-red card against Jordy de Wijs (90+4), Fortuna ended the game outnumbered.

The Fürth coach Alexander Zorniger made five changes after the 2-1 draw against Karlsruher SC – and the new starting staff made a strong impression. However, the Franconians were not necessarily in their actions until the opening goal. Although the Düsseldorfers were committed, they were hardly able to score goals against better hosts overall.

Teuchert saves Hannover 96: draw at SSV Jahn Regensburg

Hannover 96 has just averted the fourth defeat in the second half of the season at SSV Jahn Regensburg, which is threatened with relegation. With a wonderful volley from 16 meters, Cedric Teuchert (88th minute) saved Lower Saxony from a draw with the Upper Palatinate shortly before the end. After three defeats in a row, the Regensburgers missed the longed-for liberation in the relegation battle with a 1-1 (1-0) win on Saturday and are now penultimate in the table.

Sarpreet Singh (15th) gave coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s team the lead in front of 8,112 spectators. Bright Arrey-Mbi failed to clear a cross from Leon Guwara in the box with a heel. Ron-Robert Zieler (55′) then kept the Hanoverians in the game with a saved penalty from Andreas Albers, who had previously been fouled by Sei Muroya.

The commitment of the Regensburg voted. But there were chances on both sides. Cologne goalkeeper Jonas Urbig excelled a few times at Jahn, who also had more of the game in the first half. The guests from Lower Saxony only put more pressure on when Sebastian Ernst came on. Ernst failed in the 69th minute with a free-standing header from close range against the post. Then Teuchert struck.
