Next veteran probably before the end

In addition to the end of Jonas Hector’s career, the fans of 1. FC Köln will probably have to cope with the departure of another veteran next summer.

As “Sport Bild” reports, it is now clear that Timo Horn will not extend his expiring contract and is turning his back on the Domstadters after 21 years at the club.

According to this, there have recently been talks between 1. FC Köln and Horn about expanding the cooperation. The 29-year-old finally decided to look for a new challenge, they say – mainly because he has only been number two in Cologne since he lost his regular place to Marvin Schwäbe in early 2022.

According to the report, Horn, who is one of the top earners at 1. FC Köln with a reported three million euros a year, does not have to worry about his future in the professional business: numerous clubs are said to have put out feelers for the veteran, under others from Germany and Italy.

But the hottest lead is said to be in the Netherlands: the native of Cologne could be there again in the coming years at a decent sporting level between the posts and at the same time stay close to his homeland.

Horn went to 1. FC Köln when he was nine

Horn switched from his home club SC Rondorf to 1. FC Köln in 2002 at the age of nine. There he went through the youth teams and also ran for all junior national teams from U15 to U21.

In 2011 he joined the Cologne professional team and a year later became number one. Thanks to strong performances, Horn knocked on the door to the senior national team several times. But there was never a nomination because of the strong goalkeeper competition in Germany.

There are a total of 329 competitive games for 1. FC Köln in Horn’s statistics. He kept a clean sheet 91 times.
