The Royal Decree, which takes a further step towards the end of the Sint Eustatius Facilities Restoration Act, can be submitted to the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Council of Ministers agreed to this on the proposal of State Secretary Van Huffelen of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.

Parliaments now have until March 6 to express their views on the content of the decision. Due to the spring recess, a longer period than the regular period of four weeks applies. The decision can then be signed by the King.

Over the past year, the public body of Sint Eustatius (OLE) has implemented improvements that were necessary to function properly and independently carry out its own tasks. All conditions have now been met to enter the third phase of the Act. This consists of two parts: the adoption of the Royal Decree and the appointment of a lieutenant governor. The procedure for this is still ongoing.

After signing the Royal Decree, the relationships were restored in accordance with the regular administrative and financial legislation for Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius (WolBES/FinBES). The (acting) Kingdom Representative will also have a number of additional powers until the Act expires on September 1, 2024.
