Next setback for Mick Schumacher

After the alleged chance of the AlphaTauri cockpit that might become free was not, Mick Schumacher probably does not have good prospects for a quick Formula 1 comeback at Williams either.

Contrary to rumors to the contrary, according to “Motorsport-Total.com” there are currently no negotiations between Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, his Williams counterpart James Vowles and Mick Schumacher about the German joining the traditional racing team.

“Sport1” had previously reported that Wolff wanted to put in a good word for his reserve driver Schumacher with Vowles and convince him to give the 24-year-old a chance to come back in Formula 1.

The speculation about a Williams change from Schumacher is based on the poor performance of Logan Sargeant. In addition to Nyck de Vries, who is also considered a shaky candidate at AlphaTauri, the American is the only driver in the field without a point in his first year in Formula 1.

In the end, however, Vowles stood behind Sargeant. The Williams team boss explained that he would soon have to start “controlling things and delivering them cleanly”. But: “Logan is here because he’s fast. He’s a rookie, he’s only had a handful of races behind him.”

No quick Formula 1 comeback for Mick Schumacher?

For Mick Schumacher, returning to a regular Formula 1 cockpit in the current season is a long way off.

AlphaTauri also focuses on other options if there is a separation from de Vries.

Schumacher is “Mercedes driver and he doesn’t appear in our plans. Toto Wolff is accordingly responsible for him,” said Red Bull motorsport consultant Dr. Helmut Marko to “F1 Insider.” “If the worst came to the worst, we would fall back on our pool of young talent. It’s specifically about Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa.”

A promotion of reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo to the cockpit of the junior team is “not an issue”.
