Next petrol price shock – refueling has never been so expensive!

It’s no fun anymore: refueling is more expensive than ever in Germany! The prices for Super E10 and diesel have reached new historic highs.

By Inga Frenser

Means: a tank filling for 100 euros – not uncommon …

The price for a liter of Super E10 rose within a week by 1.3 cents on the national average to 1.725 euros per liter. The price of diesel fuel rose by 1.4 cents to 1.654 euros.

Reason: the increase in the price of crude oil. A barrel of Brent oil is currently trading at $91 – up $2 on the previous week.

And there is no end to the price spiral in sight – on the contrary.

That’s how it used to be

In February 2012, a liter of E10 cost 1.587 – almost 14 cents less than today. With diesel, the difference is even greater. Ten years ago you had to pay 1.48 euros per liter for a liter of diesel – 17 cents less.

For comparison: in 1999, a liter of diesel cost an annual average of just 1.24 euros – around 41 cents less than today. In 1989 the price was 0.95 euros per liter.

You can save up to seven cents per liter in this way

Especially at times when the displays at the petrol pumps are constantly climbing, it might be worth getting in the car again before going to bed.

Because according to the ADAC, it is often much cheaper to fill up in the evening hours: while petrol and diesel cost the most in the morning around 7 a.m., it is cheapest to fill up in the evening hours between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

► In concrete terms: If you fill up in the evening, you can save up to seven cents per liter on average.

In addition, you should probably say goodbye to your favorite gas station, because according to ADAC, the prices between the common brand gas stations can differ by around six cents per liter.
