FC Bayern’s interest in Arminia Bielefeld’s goalkeeper Stefan Ortega as the new backup for Manuel Neuer seems to be documented. But the position of number three will probably be reassigned – to a top talent from their own stable.
After Bayer Leverkusen, a potential prospect in the person of sports director Rudi Völler, has already waved off, there is a lot to be said for a move from Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega to FC Bayern in the summer.
Should the free transfer planned by the German record champions go ahead according to media reports, the 29-year-old would take over the position as a substitute behind Manuel Neuer.
Sven Ulreich, whose contract ends after the season, would then have to give way in the FC Bayern goalkeeping team.
Does FC Bayern promote their U23 keeper?
But there is also an interesting personality behind the regular Neuer backup. According to information from “Spox” and “Goal” there are internal mental games to officially promote U23 goalkeeper Johannes Schenk to number three.
The 19-year-old has a contract with FC Bayern until 2024 and has recently been training regularly with the pros. The goalkeeper trainer around Toni Tapalovic was said to have convinced the youngster of his qualities.
Recently, “Sport1” also reported that the 1.93 meter tall Schenk had earned a reputation as a top talent in the club.
FC Bayern: No more room for Christian Früchtl
In the event of Schenk’s promotion to FC Bayern, there would be no more room for Christian Früchtl, who was also long regarded as a future star in the goalkeeper sky.
The development of the 22-year-old has recently stalled, a loan to 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2020/2021 season turned into a disaster. According to “Sport1”, there are therefore talks with potential buyers for fruit from Germany and abroad.
Since his contract in Munich runs until 2023, he could even put a small transfer fee into the coffers of FC Bayern.
