Next German biathlon star starts at Schalke

In the coming winter, the sport of biathlon will once again be a guest in the Schalke Arena. After Denise Herrmann’s commitment, Benedikt Doll’s participation has now been officially confirmed.

Like the organizer on Facebook announced, Denise Herrmann and Benedikt Doll will represent Germany in the coming season at the biathlon event at Schalke. It is already the fourth joint start of the duo in Gelsenkirchen.

The fact that Herrmann will be part of the biathlon spectacle in the Schalke football arena has been certain for a few days. Herrmann will “definitely be at the start” in Gelsenkirchen this year, explained Herbert Fritzenwenger, sports organizer of the race.

“Many international stars who didn’t compete in Ruhpolding last year because of Corona and the Olympics have promised to compete at Auf Schalke again this year. I think that will be a great field of participants,” revealed Fritzenwenger.

Biathlon at Schalke always “something special”

The first edition of the biathlon race at Schalke took place around 20 years ago. The event is always “something special,” said Fritzenwenger. “It’s special that it’s finally taking place again at Schalke. That’s where it belongs and that’s where it should stay,” emphasized the organizer.

After a forced two-year break, biathlon is returning to Gelsenkirchen this year. The event will take place on December 28th. Tickets purchased for the 2020 or 2021 event remain valid.

“The World Team Challenge is something like my life’s work when it comes to biathlon. I was able to provide impetus, try out ideas and work with all the important stakeholders,” Fritzenwenger continued. “Back then I wanted to bring the sport to people who had fewer opportunities to attend a biathlon competition with the international stars.”
