Tomás, how was the origin of the enterprise?
Vinyes Ocults was born as the realization of the dream of making my own wine. The ’90s were ending and the story began in the patio of the family home, in a very traditional way. We started with a Merlot that we shared with friends and family, in that process we all fulfilled some role made from grapes from the Uco Valley.
The numbering of the house that saw the birth of this story was the name of the first wine: 2690. We not only made wine there, we lived it with great passion, affection and enthusiasm.
In 2002 we bought a piece of land in the Uco Valley, from there a new path began, pursuing the same dream, to make wine! now with own grapes. Being part of the whole process, going the whole way, learning and knowing more, that was the feeling that always walked this adventure.
What wines do they produce?
I started working in a winery where concentrated must was made, then I went through Trivento and Nieto Senetiner. In 2008 I started working at Bodega Polo, where we currently develop the Vinyes Ocults portfolio.
Vinyes Ocults is now a complex line of high-end wines and sparkling wines from Mendoza, with diverse varietals and innovative methods, expanding options so that more and more people experience wine. It is a consolidated brand and one that is worth tasting.
What are the sensations generated by dedicating yourself to this field?
Being a winemaker gives me the opportunity to relate to the land in a very nice and respectful way, trying each year to interpret in the best way what nature tells us. I have learned a lot, I have known a lot, but what moves me the most is knowing that there is still a long way to go and that in this process there is no point of arrival, but rather a horizon towards which we are building an identity, a way of being, feeling and live with and in wine.
