News | Vikings: Valhalla

★★★1/2 It is being sold as a sequel to the successful Vikings, a series with which the History Channel had launched itself into historical fiction. It very much is: the conflict between Christianity and paganism, plus the fighting in England in the 11th century, a hundred years after the culmination of the original series. But it is, above all, what -with historical excuse- is usually called “reboot”: start again with similar characters and a conflict that is not different. By the way, the historical excuse allows it to be done, and ultimately the series is just as well done as the original; the temporary pirouette allows us to see “new” actors and ditto characters without feeling nostalgic. Well, no: some nostalgia appears because, precisely, the original Vikings had exhausted the theme and, above all, the forms: we will hardly see anything new in this new stage. But since it maintains the very high production values, it is impossible to get bored: Valhalla has blood in her veins and, quite a lot, on her face and the rest of her body. he
