News? Summer? nubel? Club boss Dreesen commits himself

Week after week, Manuel Neuer is getting closer to his comeback at FC Bayern. Those responsible for the German record champions are optimistic that the goalkeeper will be able to play at the top level again in the future.

In the 2023 calendar year, Manuel Neuer has not played a single minute for FC Bayern. In December, the 37-year-old broke his lower leg while skiing and has been absent from the team since then.

Recently, however, the German national keeper made significant progress in training. Munich’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said on Monday at the Tegernsee training camp that he was confident that he would soon see Neuer at the old level.

The trust is huge. “When Manuel listens to himself and tells us: I’m coming back and I want to attack again and I want to reach the old level – who would we be if we didn’t have this trust in him?” said Dreesen: “Manuel is part of the FC Bayern. He’s not just a deserving player, he’s a world-class goalkeeper, has won titles for us at the highest level for years.”

However, it will probably not be enough for a comeback at the Bundesliga opener on August 18th at Werder Bremen. Neuer is currently training individually, after the Munich team’s trip to Asia he is to be partially integrated into team training.

Sommer and Nübel can leave FC Bayern

Meanwhile, Dreesen admitted that the goalkeeper situation at Bayern is currently complicated. Neuer is not fit yet, Yann Sommer and Alexander Nübel do not want to be satisfied with the reserve role and leave the club before the deadline day.

“We have a responsibility towards the others and we will deal with that accordingly. It’s not about blocking others’ path, but together we have to find what’s best for the club,” Dreesen made absolutely clear.
